RNLI Fire Training Day
January 2007 - Fire Trainers here we come!
On 22 January 2007 eleven trusty souls from Coleman’s set off for a day's training at the RNLI fire training facility to renew our fire marshal certificates.
Our instructor Rob Smith, a fully fledged fireman, put us through our paces, firstly in the classroom, and then after a hearty lunch in the Lifeboat College we donned our protective clothing and helmets.
We then proceeded to the fire training ground where we all had a go at using water, powder and CO2
extinguishers on different types of fire, all under the close eye of Rob and his assistant Dave who kept starting the fires up as soon as we put them out.
Then for the highlight of the day we split into two groups and went into the fire simulator where we
experienced both the heat of a fire and how smoke rises and falls. We again had an opportunity to
tackle a fire under controlled conditions.
Everyone agreed that it was a great training day and we all passed with flying colours.
